The Design Partnership were engaged to undertake a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) assessment of their proposed new village centre in Calderwood, which would include a mix of uses such as a major supermarket chain, specialty stores, tavern, 24 hour gym, childcare, office spaces and associated car parking.
The purpose of the CPTED assessment was to ensure that the design of the village centre would prioritise the safety and security of customers and the surrounding neighbourhood while promoting the development's overall livability and contribution to the surrounding neighbourhood.
In a collaborative process with the Client and design team, The Design Partnership reviewed the proposed retail centre design, identified potential security risks, and made recommendations to improve safety measures within the retail centre, so that the final design would provide a safe environment for the community.
